saca tus vacaciones del armario

Gran Canaria offers you an impressive gay scene, and varied parties all year round. But even when surrounded by such fun, you may find some time to commit to an interesting cause for all of us. This weekend we are celebrating the second edition of Maspalomas Summer Fiesta. This is an endeavor from Igon Canaries, and a different kind of event to help with the fight against HIV and AIDS. The schedule will take place around Yumbo Centre, and it will feature dancing, pool party, sex party, official BBQ… But this time, the complete admission fees will proceed to several aid programmes to benefit HIV-positive people in the island, by means of the local charity ACES.

Maspalomas Summer Fiesta is starting on Friday July 24th with a “Neon Glow Night” at Kiss club. If you have never visited such a party, get ready for a surprise! Guys and gals dress and get their face painted with fluorescent colours that glow under special light effects. They don’t stain, so don’t worry! The dancefloor becomes a hypnotic and colorful show when attendees start dancing to the club’s international DJs. Quite an unforgettable experience!

Saturday 25th’s night will open at Kiki terrace bar with a crazy idea: a Hawaiian party with funny music and tropical cocktails served by Kiki’s gorgeous go-go boys. This party is open to everyone, though the most daring guys can get lost later at “Sweat”. That’s the evocative proposal from Bunker sex club, just next door. Its staff wants to seize that night to promote safe sex, and in my opinion there’s no more adequate place and time to do that.

Anyway, the main event is called “Summer Splash”, and will be held on Sunday July 26th at Basement Studios, a bungalow complex opposite Yumbo. It’s a men-only pool party, and it’s better you come early if you want to get a sunbed: doors will open at 10 AM and lots of visitors are expected. Clothing will be optional, and a BBQ will be served at mid-day. This is included in the ticket price (10 €, donated to charity as I explained above).

Our LGTB residents, workers and business owners in Gran Canaria form a huge community. I personally feel proud on how we can join our forces when there’s a really important reason. This is one of them. Maspalomas Summer Fiesta and other events provide essential funding to ACES, and its HIV prevention and aid programmes. We know you’re not short of reasons to visit the Canary Islands, our events and LGTB festivals… but maybe you’ll have another one from this weekend!
