Vacaciones en MaspalomasGran Canaria is the top Gay destination in Europe. With an average yearly temperature of 22 degrees and 300 days of sun, thousands of gays, lesbians, transsexuals and bisexuals visit us every year attracted both by our wonderful climate and by the tolerance, friendliness, hospitality and sex appeal of both male and female Canarians.

Gran Canaria is situated only a few hours’ flying time from the main cities in Spain and Europe as a whole.  The well-known Spartacus guidebook describes it as the “European Miami Beach”. Its main attraction is the sun and the beaches, as well as the fun to be had from Monday through Sunday.

The gay atmosphere on Gran Canaria is guaranteed, varied and reasonable, compared to any city on the mainland or in Europe and there is a wide range of accommodation types, from rural accommodation to well-cared for bungalows and hotels close to the beach (gay exclusive, gay friendly and hetero friendly), which are affordable for every pocket.

Gay Pride MaspalomasIn order to enjoy your holiday to the full, I recommend staying in the “gayest part of the island”, in Playa del Inglés or Maspalomas,  where the sun and the partying are assured. There are lots of leisure options just a step away from the kilometre-long beaches and the Maspalomas Dunes, a protected natural area, a paradise for nudists and cruising, where, in the daytime, the atmosphere revolves round Kiosk Number 7. The very centre of the night life in the area is the Centro Comercial Yumbo and surrounding areas – Ave de Tirajana, Ave. de Estados Unidos and Ave. de Francia. This four-storey shopping centre will really surprise you, as it’s full of shops, bars and clubs with a fantastic atmosphere catering for all tastes: cafés, bars, #leather and #bear clubs, restaurants, #saunas, #discos, etc.

Any time of the year is good to travel to Gran Canaria but, if what you’re looking for are places that are bursting at the seams with people, we recommend visiting us in February (Carnivals) or in May, (Maspalomas Pride, one of the most entertaining and original Prides in the world). November (German Carnival time) is also a good month to visit, when the weather is colder than normal in your home town.

Of all the LGTB destinations I know, Gran Canaria is a rainbow continent in miniature because, besides the sun, the beach and the fun, there is also the modern cosmopolitan city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, with its beautiful old historic quarter, varied cultural offer, great shopping and some lively bars, restaurants and clubs in and around Calle María Pineda and Parque Santa Catalina, which are well worth a visit. Las Canteras beach and the city Carnival also deserve a mention, along with the internationally known Drag Queen Gala. And, if you come with a little more time up your sleeve, don’t miss a visit inland, where you’ll be surprised by the green countryside and outstanding mountainous landscapes (Roque Nublo, Caldera de Tirajana crater and Inagua), as well as the pretty towns of Agaete, Teror and Agüímes.

Special Recommendation – Factor 30, the best of your wardrobe and your mobile with Grindr or Brenda, along with the Canary Islands transvestite cabaret shows and the audacious Drag Queens who, every night, act in the most ‘in’ clubs – an awesome experience.
